The Proact Stadium remains the place to be if you want to see entertainment, five goals and a sting in the tail last week and six more goals, a red card and an injury time hammer blow this week as the game ended 3-3.

Drew Talbot, back after an ankle injury, tangled with Marvin Sordell 25 yards out, a coming together that referee Williamson saw as the denial of a goal scoring chance, so just 15 minutes in, the Spireites were a man down. Seventeen year old Jack Fitzwater came on at right back for the unlucky Gboly Ariyibi and the West Brom loanee was fouled and Dean Jones crossed in the free-kick which sailed unfettered into the net.

Gavin Massey was in far too much space just before the half hour mark to stroke home a pass from the impressive Charlton loanee Callum Harriott to level matters and it was 1-1 at the break. Colchester were fast out of the trap for the second half and it came as something as a surprise when Lee Novak stabbed in after Jay O’Shea and Dan Gardner had worked well to create the opening.

Spireites, who saw Tommy Lee make two brilliant saves to deny Alex Gilbey and Marvin Sordell, then took a 3-1 lead on the break, Sam Morsy sweeping home an Ollie Banks assist.

The two goal cushion lasted just two minutes as George Moncur converted Harriott’s cross in but a home win was in Chesterfield’s grasp but three minutes into stoppage time Moncur hammered against the bar, Harriott picked up the ball and his delivery in hit Charlie Raglan on the chest for a devastating own goal.
