SIMON Ford is in contention to start for the Spireites as the League Two leaders travel to Burton Albion tonight.

The centre half, who injured his knee in the draw with Bradford City just under a fortnight ago, is in the frame to start having recently resumed training.

However there is no place for Dean Morgan, whose troublesome ankle has kept him out since New Years’ Day. Boss John Sheridan said he is still “a couple of weeks” away.

The manager also confirmed that Aaron Downes won’t feature at all this season. The Australian centre back injured his cruciate for a second time a year ago and he has had a further operation this week. Downes is expected to be ready to join in full pre-season training in July.

The Brewers, twice victorious over the Spireites this term, have slipped alarmingly down the table of late, mainly due to a lack of action, and Sheridan doesn’t expect them to stay in the relegation zone.

Craig Davies will be looking to end his scoring drought against his hometown club whilst Jack Lester should be a little sharper than he was against Aldershot Town last week after participating in full training this week.

Deane Smalley is set to earn a starting berth as Chesterfield look to extend their unbeaten run, which stretches back to Albion’s FA Cup victory back in November.

The Football Association have lavished praise on the Spireites for the staging of the England U19 friendly international match on Tuesday.

Alexis Christofides, the FA’s England Teams Operations Coordinator, said: “The FA is highly delighted at the success of the event and consider the B2net Stadium a fantastic venue.”
