Spireites reserves beat Doncaster Rovers 1-0 in a friendly at Saltergate yesterday. Drew Talbot, absent from the League Two win over Cheltenham last Saturday with flu, headed home an Alan Goodall cross to earn the win.
Aaron Downes completed another 90 minutes and must now be considered ready for first team action after his cruciate ligament injury. Also involved was midfielder Lloyd Kerry, still to play for John Sheridan. He's back at Saltergate after a loan at Alfreton. Davide Somma, the on loan striker from Leeds, missed the Cheltenham game injured but could be available for the trip to Port Vale on Saturday. Vale's figurehead is ex Barnsley striker Marc Richards, who has already scored 10 this season. He was sent-off in this fixture last season for punching Aaron Downes, who went on to head in the winner.
Chesterfield youth team won 6-0 in the Midland Youth Cup quarter final against Nuneaton through Ben Watkis, Sam Smith, Jordan Burrow, Tendayi Darikwa, Shamus Beaglehole and an own goal.
