Crewe marksman Clayton Donaldson, 27, is the latest man to be linked with promoted Chesterfield.
The 29 goal striker has been offered a new deal by Dario Gradi, but the veteran Alex boss is resigned to losing his main scorer, so he could become the man to replace Craig Davies, himself seemingly certain to move on.
Donaldson, formerly of Hull City, was a target of Chesterfield back in 2006-07 when he was with York City but he chose to move north of the border to play for Hibernian at the time.
He joins Yeovil Town left back Nathan Smith, Bury winger Kyle Bennett and Stockport County engine roomer Paul Turnbull as names linked with John Sheridan’s newly promoted side.
Oldham Striker Deane Smalley is another target following his successful loan spell at the B2net. He’s been offered a deal by parent club Oldham Athletic but has still to sign it.
