CHESTERFIELD continue their pre-season build up this evening.

After big wins at Staveley and Matlock and a draw at Telford, Chesterfield will hope to remain unbeaten on their short trip to Nicky Law’s Alfreton Town of the Blue Square Premier.

Chesterfield will hope key defenders Neal Trotman (knee) and Nathan Smith (ankle) are fit enough to make their first appearances of pre-season. Talismanic striker Jack Lester (groin) could also be in line for his first warm-up game.

Manager John Sheridan will be starting to formulate his first XI ahead of the first competitive game, a home Capital One Cup tie against Tranmere Rovers on August 14.

Nailed on to start that game, fitness issues apart, are keeper Tommy Lee, a back four of Drew Talbot, Trotman, skipper Sam Hird and Smith. Strikers Jordan Bowery and Marc Richards look the likely frontmen, leaving most speculation over the midfield.

Sam Togwell will start centrally and Danny Whitaker almost certainly on the left. Mark Allott and Mark Randall will fight to partner Togwell with Craig Westcarr favourite for the other wide spot.
