St Patrick’s Athletic boss Liam Buckley has issued a ‘hands off’ warning to potential suitors of Chris Fagan, who is rumoured to be interesting Chesterfield chief Paul Cook.
And the immediate future of Sam Clucas, another Cook target, is expected to be resolved shortly, with Mansfield Town boss Paul Cos admitting that a decision on his future will be made “as possible this week, hopefully in the next 24 hours”.
Norwegian club SK Brann have seemingly tabled a six figure bid for Fagan, which Buckley has indicated is ‘way off’ the 25-year-old’s true valuation.
Such a fee level would seem to rule Chesterfield out of the race.
And Stags boss Cox added: “Talks are ongoing with Sam, but I want to get this nipped in the bud one way or another as soon as possible this week, hopefully in the next 24 hours.
“It’s not doing Mansfield Town, Chesterfield or, more importantly, the player any good with all this speculation.
“I want to know as quickly as possible if he is going to be a Mansfield Town player. Money has now been talked about but nothing agreed and it’s all up in the air.”
Spireites travel to Port Vale at the weekend, and Cook is hoping Gary Roberts, Jay O’Shea, Dan Gardner, Ollie Banks and Jimmy Ryan all recover to a level close to 100 per cent ahead of the short trip.
