YOUNG left back Conor Townsend is hungry for more game time after making his league debut in the Spireites draw with Burton Albion.

The Hull City youngster, who was a regular on loan at Blue Square Premier outfit Grimsby Town last season, got his first taste of league action against the Brewers, albeit just five minutes.

The 19-year-old said: “Hopefully I can get some more game time in the next game at Southend and see where I go from there.

“In the second-half against Burton, the lads were brilliant and we were really unlucky not to get all three points.”

Townsend came on in midfield rather than his preferred defensive position but conceded: “Nathan Smith is on fire so it wouldn’t be fair to drop him when he has been playing that well.

“Maybe my chance will come on the left of midfield. I’m not bothered where I play as long as I am playing.”

Chesterfield lock horns with Paul Sturrock’s Southend United, who are unbeaten in a dozen games.

Jack Lester, the Spireites top-scorer with eight goals, will serve a three-match ban following his red card versus the Brewers.
