The Spireites squad travel to Portugal tomorrow for a short team-building break.

Manager Paul Cook said; “There’ll be training sessions and we may have a beer, but it’s all about pulling people together into a team that will win football matches.”

Chesterfield’s first friendly is only a fortnight away, at Buxton, and the boss has indicated he’ll be putting out a strong team at Silverlands.

He’ll be hoping the signings of winger Gary Roberts, defender Ryan Cresswell and midfielder Sam Morsy will be put to bed as soon as possible to enable them to have maximum time to gel with their new teammates.

Injured pair Nathan Smith and Tommy Lee, who missed games at the end of last season with foot and ankle injuries, are both expected to be able to put in full pre-season training after the return from overseas.

Fitness coach Shane Nicholson indicated satisfaction with the standard of the players’ fitness when they returned to training two days ago.

The squad will be joined by trialists Matty Brown and John Shaw, both defenders, from Northern Premier side Marine.
