Spireites Chief Executive Chris Turner has confirmed Chesterfield will not be operating in a reserves league next season.

The club returned to the Central League last term but have decided to withdraw after just one campaign. They are looking to have a smaller squad than last season and send their fringe players out on loan to ensure regular competitive fixtures.

Turner has also indicated there’s been no interest shown in ex-Doncaster Rovers player Sam Hird, who’s on the transfer list.

Out of contract Drew Talbot is being pushed for an answer as to whether he’ll accept his new contract offer. It’s generally anticipated he’ll move on but manager Paul Cook is keen to keep the former Owl.

Ryan Cresswell, who has a year of his Southend United contract remaining and Romy Boco, out of contract with Accrington Stanley, remain two targets for Cook.

Spireites have just 12 players definitely on board for the new season.

Talbot plus Jacob Hazel have been made offers, the latter will sign on again. Mark Randall and Richard Brindley remain in discussions with Brindley being the most likely of the two to remain at the Proact for the new season.
