World Cup fever has affected Spireites pre-season game just down the road at Matlock Town.
The Gladiators have announced that their home game with Chesterfield on Wednesday 9th July will now start fifteen minutes earlier than originally set, with the kick-off time being 7.30pm due to the second World Cup semi-final being that night with a 9pm start time. Fans are invited to watch the game in Matlock’s Autoworld Lounge as the friendly draws to a close.
Fans will have the chance to get up close and personal with the League Two Champions’ Trophy at another pre-season game at Sheffield FC’s Coach & Horses Ground. Spireites will send a young team over to the World’s oldest club on July 15th and they’ll bring along the silverware. Fans will be able to pay for a photograph with the trophy with Sheffield receiving all of the funds raised.
Building is set to start on the Chesterfield FC Memorial Garden adjacent to the East Stand at the Proact Stadium. Foundations for the £35,000 garden have already been laid and the first building blocks have been delivered.
It’s hoped that the project will be completed by the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War on 4th August. A fundraising dinner is being held at the Stadium on 2nd August which, it’s hoped, will take the total amount of cash raised to the target amount.
