Chesterfield directors are to meet with Spireites supporters this month to allay fears over the club’s financial situation.
The club’s company secretary Ashley Carson will meet a group of 30 fans at the Proact tomorrow night, along with two other directors, CEO Chris Turner and head of media Nick Johnson.
Ten supporters have been nominated to attend from three sections of the club’s fanbase – a Facebook group, an online forum and the Bridge Inn Travel group.
Mr Carson told the Derbyshire Times it would be a chance to redress what he called a ‘lack of dialogue’ between the club and its supporters.
Fans reacted with alarm to the club’s recently released annual accounts, which showed a small proft of £42k despite player sales of around £2million.
He said: “We intend to share financial information and hold an open and frank meeting with a group of fans.
“I feel that the lack of dialogue has led to unrest and concern amongst many fans. I hope to be able to correct this position and if it is a success, this will lead to future forums being held and more fans will be invited to take part.
Mr Carson will be joined by fellow directors Chris Breeze and John Croot and he promises to give supporters access to financial information to ‘allay’ their fears.
“We will discuss matters relating to the club in an open forum,” he said.
“We are always looking at ways of engaging with our fan base and we hope that this meeting will help clarify certain points.
“Figures will be produced to allay any fears that supporters may have regarding the club’s financial position.”
The meeting comes less than a week before the club’s annual general meeting, where shareholders will get a chance to put questions to the decision makers at the Proact.
