Ian Evatt has revealed he turned down Championship offers in favour of a return to Chesterfield.
The defender put pen to paper on a two-year deal and will captain the Spireites in their push for promotion from League Two.
He becomes Paul Cook’s ninth summer signing and expressed his delight at returning to the club he spent two years at a decade ago.
He said: “People may raise a few eyebrows for me to drop down into League Two but money isn’t a motivation.
“The chairman wants to get to the Championship in two years and I can’t see any reason why we can’t get there. From what I’ve seen so far and with the players we’ve got, we should be looking at achieving that and nothing less, in my opinion.”
A knee injury restricted Evatt to 12 appearances for Blackpool last season.
He had been training at Blackburn Rovers after his summer release from the Seasiders.
“My knee’s fine and I’m just a couple of weeks from being match sharp,” he said.
