CHESTERFIELD’S season opener will be a home game against League One side Tranmere Rovers in the newly named Capital One League Cup.
Last season the two sides met in Chesterfield’s successful Johnstone’s Paint Trophy campaign with John Sheridan’s men coming from 3-2 down with 10 minutes left to win 4-3.
Prior to that, Rovers had triumphed in every one of the four previous cupties against the B2net side.
Rovers are now managed by ex-Millers boss Ronnie Moore whose Rotherham United career ended after a 5-0 drubbing by Chesterfield shown on Sky TV.
Rovers’ new signings include fomer Rotherham midfielder Danny Harrison, who’d been with United for five years after joining them from Tranmere.
