Buxton are set to welcome a full-strength Chesterfield side to the Silverlands on Saturday.
The newly-promoted Spireites make the short trip across Derbyshire for the first friendly of both side’s pre-season.
Ahead of the meeting (3pm kick-off), Bucks boss Martin McIntosh says former Chesterfield favourite Derek Niven is assured of a warm reception.
Niven, aged 30, made nearly 300 appearances for the Spireites and scored the last-ever goal at Saltergate.
McIntosh said: “Derek is a favourite of the Chesterfield fans.
“I’m sure he’s in for a good reception on Saturday.
“It should be a good match because Paul Cook has told me he’s bringing across a strong side.
“Hopefully we can get a good crowd in so it should be a good spectacle.”
McIntosh says Paul Cook’s side could be in for a difficult season upon their return to the third tier.
He added: “It’s difficult to tell how they’ll do this year.
“There’s a not a great deal between League One and League Two, and I think my old club Rotherham showed that last season when they went up again.
“I wish Paul all the best though and I thank him for agreeing to bring a full-strength side here on Saturday.”
