Turner told the club’s official website that any talk of a transfer was premature and played down rumours fuelled by Morsy following Saturday’s game against Millwall when he made what appeared to be a farewell speech to guests in the DCJ Group Spires Restaurant after collecting the man-of-the-match award.

Turner said: “I was disappointed to hear that Sam had made comments which suggested that he was on the move.

“Yes, there has been an enquiry from another League One club, but we have yet to receive an offer from them.

“Until we receive an offer that matches our valuation of Sam, he will remain a Chesterfield player.

“Sam will be out of contract in the summer and we have made attempts to secure him on a new deal, but he has made it clear that he would like to move. It is now a case of seeing whether a suitable deal can be agreed with another club or if Sam remains with us until the end of the season.

“I can assure our fans that our decision will be made, as always, in the best interests of the club. We only want players who are committed to the club and we will not stand in the way of any player who does not want to play for us.”
