Former Blades starlet Jordan Slew has signed until the end of the season having been released by Cambridge United whilst Declan John has joined on loan from Cardiff City.

Wilson said of striker Slew: “I’ve known him since his young days and I know what he’s capable of doing, so from that point of view, it was a no-brainer to bring him in on a deal until the end of the season.

“It’s now down to him to prove that he’s worthy of a longer contract.”

Regarding John, the manager commented: “He is a very good, hungry player, who is very unfortunate not to be in the Cardiff team at this moment in time.

“Declan has experience of playing the Premier League, the Championship and League One and we’re looking forward to working with him.

“He’ll be coming in and wanting to prove himself and I’m sure he’ll be a great addition.”

Wilson is still awaiting news of the appeal against skipper Gary Liddle’s red card in the midweek 1-1 draw at Colchester United.

Should he not be available, Chris Herd is most likely to step in.

Liam O’Neil (concussion) remains an absentee along with long termers Ian Evatt, Dan Jones and Angel Martinez but midweek subs Lee Novak and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake are both available to start.

John will be battling with Drew Talbot for the right back role with Talbot possibly returning to wide midfield if he doesn’t get the defensive spot.

Spireites climbed out of the bottom four in midweek and a win over a six-game unbeaten Alex is vital for Wilson’s side’s survival chances and a clean sheet, not witnessed in 15 games, will be a target for the back four.

Winger Gboly Ariyibi was pleased with the point at Colchester. He said of Novak’s penalty equaliser: “The goal gave us a big lift and from now we’ve got everything to fight for. We’ll get our confidence back and we’ll be ready for Crewe.”
