Chesterfield boss urges troops to finish on a high

Chesterfield boss Danny Wilson wants to finish the season on a high at Bradford City.

The Spireites travel to Valley Parade for Sunday’s match safe in the knowledge their League One status has been preserved for next season.

A home victory over Bury last weekend made sure of that and Wilson is keen for his troops to continue their form in to the last game.

He said: “At this stage of the season, I don’t like anyone accusing anyone of putting the flip flops on and going on their holidays because there is too much to play for.

“There’s pride to play for and we have a duty to the other teams in the league as well to give the best performance we can, as if we were still in danger of going down.

“I think we owe it to the fans as well. I’m sure we’ll be taking quite a few fans as well. That in itself is reason to put in a strong performance.”

Wilson stated any decisions over the playing squad will be made after the final whistle on Sunday and not before, with a retained list expected to be announced next week.

“We’re still looking at the players and how they’re going to react. There will be 15-18 thousand, I would think, at the game,” said Wilson.

“They (Bradford) will be wanting to win the game and I understand why they would want to get a good result.

“They could finish in fourth position. If that’s the case, the second game of the semi-final will be at home.

“That will be a big bonus from their point of view. It’ll be a tough game. They’ll expect a tough game.

“We’ve got to go off the back of a very good performance (against Bury) and put the same type of effort into that game.”

And added: “I’m going to win the game. I think it’s important that the team finish on a high and deliver a strong performance.”

Charlie Raglan will miss the game through suspension while Tommy Lee (shoulder) and Lee Novak (knee) are both injury doubts.
