Ched Evans faces fitness test before Bury, but isn't '˜nailed on' to start if fit

But even if the Spireites’ leading goalscorer is passed fit, assistant boss Chris Morgan insists he’s not ‘nailed on’ to start at Gigg Lane.

The Welshman missed last weekend’s game against Northampton Town with a heel injury and has been on ‘light duties’ all week.

Morgan said: “Ched is coming on, we’re going to take a look at him in the morning.

“He’s been doing bits and bobs with the physio, his strengthening exercises on the bikes and rowers.

“We’re trying to leave it as late as possible.”

The impressive performances ofstrikers Connor Wilkinson and Kristian Dennis mean that Evans might not walk back into the side.

Wilkinson grabbed two goals on his Proact debut against the Cobblers, Dennis claiming the third goal in the 3-1 win.

Morgan said: “If he’s not right I’m sure the two lads who started last week will want to keep their shirts anyway.

“I’d probably say it’s not as nailed on as you think (that Evans would start if fit).

“The two lads who played last week were excellent.

“One thing the gaffer always says, if you’ve got the shirt and play well, you keep it.”

Chesterfield have no fresh injury concerns as they prepare for an in-form Bury side who have won four games on the bounce.

Centre-half Ian Evatt had an injection to assist with a niggling hip injury on Tuesday and was given two days to recover, but is likely to be back in training today and available for selection tomorrow.

Morgan added: “Everyone else is fine, everyone has trained.

“The preparation has been good, they’re a confident group.”
