Cahill sees ban threat lifted

BOLTON Wanderers’ Dronfield-born defender Gary Cahill has had his claim for wrongful dismissal last weekend upheld.

The England international was sent off after 17 minutes of the 3-0 defeat at Tottenham for a foul on Scott Parker just inside his own half.

Referee Stuart Atwell had shown the red card for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity. However, Bolton lodged an appeal and an independent panel have upheld their claim for wrongful dismissal.

As a result Cahill’s subsequent one-match suspension has been withdrawn.

It’s welcome news for manager Owen Coyle, whose side are 19th in the table, and along with Wigan, are the only team in the Premier yet to reach double figures in points.
