Blues aim to toast a double

HALLAM will aim to end 2011 on a high note by completing their first league double of the season.

The Blues take on Yorkshire Amateur on Boxing Day at Sandygate Road having beaten the West Yorkshire side 4-1 in the reverse fixture at Bracken Edge at the end of August.

An instant return to the Premier Division looks unlikely with the Blues currently sitting in mid-table and 15 points outside the top two.

However, Julian Watts’ side appear to have turned the corner, winning five and drawing two of the last 10 league games.

There is a derby at Green Lane where promotion hopefuls Parkgate entertain relegation-threatened Maltby Main.

It looks a banker home win. The Steelmen have won the last four on the spin.

Staveley MW are also very much in the promotion picture with Billy Fox’s side up to fifth.

They head for what looks to be a tough test of their credentials at Armthorpe Welfare, who have lost only one in the last 12 outings at Church Street.

Leaders Retford United should cement their five point gap at the top by completing a league double at lowly Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

There is a noon start at Rossington Main for the derby against Askern Villa.

Dinnington Town go to Shirebrook Town with a point to prove in what will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season.

Steve Toyne’s men will be keen to avoid a whitewash against Shirebrook, who have won the previous three meetings.

AFC Emley face in-form neighbours Hemsworth MW at the Welfare ground (1pm).

Darren Hepworth’s side will be hoping to end a poor run of form, which has seen them pick up just one point from the last seven outings and slip to 12th in the table.
