Barnsley have turned a corner, says goalkeeper Adam Davies

The Reds are off the bottom of League One and could climb out of the relegation zone if they can beat Wigan Athletic at home this afternoon.

“Yeah, we’ve definitely started to turn the corner,” said Davies. “We’re in a good place at the minute.

“We’ve played well the last few games and hopefully this is the start of a good little run.

“I knew the results would turn our way in the end because we’ve been working really hard on the training ground.

“It’s good the results have finally come our way, but we’ve just got to keep at it now.”

But Davies has warned there is still plenty of hard work left to do to resurrect what has so far been a poor season apart from an inspired run to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area final.

“We’ve still got things to work on, but the win last weekend [3-2 away to Colchester United] means there’s been a good buzz around the place,” stressed Davies.

“The group has good resilience, but we can’t let 3-0 leads slip and let teams get back to 3-2.

“It’s hard but for me this is the toughest test I’ve ever had as a goalkeeper and, hopefully, I feel as though I’m coming through it now.”

Meanwhile, Barnsley boss Lee Johnson is delighted to have an almost fully fit squad for the visit of the Latics.

Only midfielder Josh Scowen remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a medial ligament knee injury.

“We’re in a good place health-wise this weekend,” added Johnson. “There’s going to be some decent competition over the next few weeks, which is what we want.”

And Johnson revealed he is keen to extend the loan deals for players like Ben Pearson, Aidan White and Kevin Long, as well as recruit new players when the transfer window re-opens in January.

“The difficulty is that we’re also looking for players who are eligible to play in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, so that could limit the market a little bit for us,” said Johnson.

“We could potentially be depleted if all our loans get recalled in January, so it’s an important factor to consider when we’re recruiting in January.

“We’ve gone through a phase of re-building, so with certain players we’ll be looking to extend deals.

“We want to keep our best players and add on the top.”
