Barnsley boss Danny Wilson has called for his side to be stronger defensively as they look to make it second time lucky away to Crewe Alexandra today.

The Reds were beaten 2-0 at home to the Railwaymen on Tuesday night as they crashed out of the Capital One Cup at the first hurdle.

But Wilson is confident his new-look side will start to click once they find the back of the net for the first time this season.

“We need to be tougher and stronger defensively,” stressed Wilson.

“We conceded two goals which were avoidable, so we need to better in that area.

“But we’ve got to be determined as we were the other night. I don’t think we played badly. We played some good stuff.

“We had a hell of a lot of chances the other night and didn’t stick them away.

“It’s always fine margins, but those two [defensively and scoring] are the most important areas.

“We’ve been quite unlucky in front of goal so far, but there’s also plenty of areas to be satisfied with.

“We’re getting there.”
