Ryan Hedges is looking forward to having a license to express himself next season.

New Barnsley head coach Daniel Stendel will implement a free-flowing German philosophy which has worked for Jurgen Klopp and David Wagner during their time in England.

The high-pressing style Stendel will bring to the club is similar to the blueprint which earned the Reds promotion from League One last time around.

Wing wizard Hedges flew out of the blocks last season by scoring three goals in the opening four games and is hopeful a strong pre-season sees him start brightly once again.

The squad met the new coaching staff last week when they returned for pre-season training.

And the 22-year-old Welsh international is champing at the bit to flourish under Stendel’s regime.

He said: “Obviously being an attacking player, you want to be given the freedom and licence to express yourself on the pitch.

“That’s what this Head Coach will do, so I’m looking forward to playing games under him.

“It’s been really good [meeting the new staff]. They seem to want to bring attacking, free-flowing football to the football club and I think that’s what the boys are buying into as well.

“Hopefully in the pre-season games and at the start of the season, we can show the fans what we’ve been doing on the training pitch.”

The club have announced their kits for the upcoming season will be revealed later this summer.

Barnsley’s white and green away strip from last season has been reinstated as the club’s new third kit.

The away kit will be worn for during the Reds’ home pre-season friendly against West Brom on July 24, with the new home kit being work against Hull on July 28.

Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye said: “We know kit release is always a highly anticipated time of year for everyone connected to Barnsley Football Club.

“They are completely unique designs that I know will be popular. We will release more details in the coming weeks about the launch campaign.”

Barnsley’s open training session on Saturday is full. The allocation of 300 free tickets have been claimed for the event, which will run from 10:30-12:00. And the club have announced the date for their annual open day will be Sunday July 29. Full details will be announced in due course.
