1914: England goalkeeper Frank Swift, who played 338 League games for Manchester City, was born. He died in the Munich air disaster, working as a journalist, in 1958.

1932: The late Lord Cowdrey was born in Bangalore, India. Colin Cowdrey scored a one-time record 7,624 runs in 114 Test matches for England. Having played for Kent in county cricket, he was elected president of the MCC in 1986. He died in 2000.

2010: Former AC Milan boss Leonardo was appointed the new manager of Inter Milan.
