BARNSLEY boss Keith Hill is playing a waiting game in his bid to sign Manchester United’s Danny Drinkwater.
The Star understands a loan extension deal could be finalised today between the two clubs over the midfielder.
Drinkwater blossomed over a four month loan spell at Oakwell having signed for the Championship club back on August 23.
The 21-year-old made 16 appearances for the Reds - only once as a substitute - and scored one goal before a thigh tear prematurely ended his stay.
He played his last game for the club on December 10 in a 5-3 home defeat to Ipswich, with injury forcing him to miss matches against West Ham, Blackpool, Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers having returned to Old Trafford for treatment.
Hill said: “We’ve made our feelings known to Manchester United, so now we’ve just got to wait and see what happens.
“We’re hopeful that something can be done, but he’s Manchester United’s player and we have to respect that.”
