BARNSLEY will not be offering goalkeeper David Preece a new contract in the summer.
Preece’s current one-year contract expires in June of this year, Reds boss Keith Hill told The Star: “David has been a superb professional and a good team player, but we won’t be offering him a contract at the end of the season.
“I’ve had discussions with David and he understands the decision.”
However, Hill ruled out trying to sign Tottenham Hotspur loan shot-stopper David Button on a permanent deal in the summer.
“I don’t think we’ll be able to afford David unfortunately, so finding a new keeper will be one of our aims.”
The club’s No 1 keeper Luke Steele remains sidelined with an abdomen injury - and is expected to be out for a further two to three weeks according to Hill.
