Goals will come, promises Barnsley ace

Mamadou Thiam has promised Barnsley fans more goals as he continues to adapt to the rigours of English football.Â

The forward struggled to find the net last season following his arrival at Oakwell from Clermont, scoring just once in 31 appearances as the Reds relinquished their Championship status. 

Thiam has retained his place in the Barnsley side under Daniel Stendel this term and bagged a brace in the opening-day rout of Oxford.

Despite not scoring again in his next nine games, Thiam is hoping to add to his two strikes as the campaign progresses. 

"I had a not easy time last season," the Frenchman said. "It was a new country and style for me but I learn all the time to improve and listen. 

'I started the season confidently and I still have confidence. But two goals is not enough for me. That can't be my season again. I have to score more goals. 

'The fans they are waiting and expecting for me to score and I want to score more goals for Barnsley."

Thiam played the entire 90 minutes as Barnsley's unbeaten start to the League One season came to an end at Coventry on Saturday. 

Jordan Willis took advantage of poor defending to head home the winner 10 minutes from time, denying Stendel the chance to record the best league start by a Reds boss. 

The Tykes again failed to take their chances at the Ricoh Arena, most notably Jacob Brown on his full league debut. 

But Thiam is refusing to be downhearted by the setback and has targeted a return to winning ways in the home clash with Burton on Saturday.

'We had a lot of chances to score in the game but we feel frustrated that we fail in this game," he added. 

'Then we concede the goal, and it is not the first time we've conceded from a set-piece goal this season. We need to improve in this area on the training ground and we will do.

'It's disappointing to end the run but we have to start a new run of not losing. 

"We have to put this result behind us, get back out onto the training pitch and work hard for better results.

'We are back in Oakwell next match and we need to get winning games again for the club and for the fans who support us.'
