SHEFFIELD Wednesday’s lack of consistency was perfectly illustrated this week as Dave Jones’ troops followed up the impressive victory at high-flying Hull with an FA Cup defeat at League One outfit MK Dons.

However, as attention turns back to the more pressing matter of Championship survival, the Owls are fancied to rack up another crucial three points, Stan James rating them as 13/10 favourites to get the better of Wolves.

The visitors, managed now by former Doncaster boss Dean Saunders, are 9/4 courtesy of BetVictor to collect all three points at Hillsborough, where bet365 post 12/5 against a stalemate and the latter could prove popular.

However, as Wanderers are the only team in the division yet to share the spoils on their travels, perhaps a conclusive affair is more likely.

Nevertheless, home supporters can guard against it finishing all square by backing Wednesday at 4/6 in Stan James ‘Draw No Bet’ market, although for confident fans, Ladbrokes’ 16/5 about Jones’ charges shading it by a one-goal margin will be more eye catching.

There’s also Skybet’s 8/1 for a 2-1 Owls success to lure the Wednesday faithful, who can back their side at either 11/4 via Paddy Power to lead at the end of each half or 19/4 (BetVictor) to come out on top following a level opening 45 minutes.

The frustrating slip-up at home to Yeovil leaves Sheffield United six points adrift of the automatic promotion places and Danny Wilson needs a response from his team in the tricky- looking clash at Notts County. Bookies though, are finding it hard to separate the teams, some pricing both at 8/5 and bet365 even make the Blades slight underdogs at 17/10.

The lack of consensus in the market will inevitably encourage punters towards BetVictor’s 12/5 for it to finish all square but the Magpies have gone off the boil recently so Skybet’s 10/3 for a United triumph by one and William Hill’s 9/1 posted against Wilson’s men grabbing the only goal, both stand out.

David Flitcroft was given the Barnsley manager’s job on a permanent basis in the wake of the 2-0 victory over Leeds and the new man at the helm is 3/1 (bet365) to celebrate his

appointment by guiding the Reds to a much-needed victory at Ipswich. Stan James meanwhile, chalk Doncaster up at a tempting 10/11 to keep up their League One

promotion push by sending Orient home from the Keepmoat Stadium empty-handed

and in League Two, BetVictor quote Rotherham at 19/10 ahead of their trip to Oxford and it’s 21/10 courtesy of bet365 for Chesterfield to win at Torquay.
