SHEFFIELD Wednesday are more likely to finish in mid-table than achieve a second successive automatic promotion, accordinng to the latest betting.

The Owls kicked off last season as second favourites to top League One but as they gear up for a Championship campaign they are in the middle of the pack at 25/1 for the title with BetVictor, some way adrift of bet365’s 7/1 favourites, relegated Bolton.

But Stan James making them 8/1 to go up while BetVictor rate the Owls at 10/3 to finish in the top six, thus guaranteeing at least a play-off place.

Relegation is the fate that bookmakers expect to befall Barnsley, who head the relegation betting at 13/8 courtesy of bet365, and the Tykes are rank outsiders in the promotion market, where William Hill chalk them up at 66/1.

Sheffield United are well fancied at 11/2 with Stan James to clinch the League One title.

Skybet offer 9/5 for Danny Wilson’s side to reach the Championship. Doncaster are a chunkier 14/1 (Paddy Power) to recover from relegation by landing top spot.

In League Two, there are high hopes for Rotherham, bet365’s clear title favourites at 10/3. Millers fans will be encouraged by the knowledge that their side are odds-on at 8/11 with Stan James to be playing League One football during the 2013/14 campaign.

Chesterfield are also tipped to perform well, Stan James marking 11/4 against them making an immediate return to League One.
