Sheffield Wednesday moved in to the top half of the Championship standings following the last-gasp success at Brentford last Saturday and bookies fancy them to build on that result this week.

William Hill have installed the Owls as 23/20 favourites to overcome Preston.

Paddy Power post 5/2 against Carlos Carvalhal’s side only securing a point at Hillsborough, where Ladbrokes quote a score draw at 10/3, and BetVictor price a 1-1 scoreline at 6/1 while Wednesday are 1/2 in’s ‘Draw No Bet’ market.

Despite steering Rotherham to back-to-back victories, Steve Evans was shown the door at the New York Stadium on Monday as the Millers board expressed their desire to move ‘in a different direction’ and former Sheffield Wednesday boss Stuart Gray is Skybet’s early favourite at 2/1 to replace Evans.

The Millers’ first post-Evans assignment sees them entertain Burnley in front of the cameras on Friday evening and Stan James make the Millers 9/5 underdogs to secure another three points. The Clarets arrive as 6/4 jollies (bet365) and it’s 13/5 at BetVictor for a draw.

Sheffield United have won three of their last four meetings with Port Vale and they’re narrow favourites at 6/4 with Stan James to improve on that record this weekend. A draw for the promotion-chasing Blades is a 12/5 chance at the same bookie and both outcomes can be covered in one bet at 4/9 (bet365).

At the Keepmoat Stadium, Doncaster entertain neighbours Barnsley in a mouth-watering derby showdown. Far more solid on their own patch than they are on the road, Rovers are bet365’s 11/10 favourites while the Tykes are a 5/2 chance at Stan James and BetVictor quote identical odds of 5/2 for an inconclusive affair.

Chesterfield have struggled for form of late but they’re nevertheless odds on at 10/11 courtesy of Stan James to see off struggling Crewe.
