Confident striker Sam Winnall believes Barnsley can upset Sheffield United in this weekend’s eagerly-anticipated South Yorkshire derby.
Speaking exclusively to The Star, hitman Winnall admits he is hungry to bag his fourth goal in six games as the Reds looks to upset the on-song Blades at Bramall Lane.
“It would be nice to win for our fans,” Winnall told The Star. “They’ve been fantastic this season.
“It’s going to be a tough games for us, we know that, but we’ll go there full of confidence.
“They’ve found a bit of form of late, but there’s a big buzz about the game and a lot of our fans are going to come and watch, so we want to get the right result for them.
“We’re just trying to find consistency at the moment, but I honestly think we’re a whisker away from producing our best form.
“There probably wouldn’t be a better game to do it and produce our best.”
Former Scunthorpe United hitman Winnall netted 23 goals last season in an inspired run for the Iron.
But this season the 23-year-old centre-forward need five games before getting off the mark.
However, Winnall has scored three goals in five outings in October and wants to start November with a bang to help the Reds climb the table after a mixed bag of results.
“We’ve been playing well, but probably not had some of the results we’ve deserved,” admitted Winnall.
“But we’re starting to find out best form and we’ve been working hard to cut out the mistakes we’ve made.
“We know that a lot of the goals we’ve conceded have come from silly mistakes, so it’s important we’re resolute and improve all over the pitch.
“I don’t think goalscoring has been much of a problem, we’ve been great going forward this season.
“But it we can tighten up defensively then I’m sure the results we want are not far away.”
Barnsley have not won in their last five visits to Bramall Lane - but Winnall, who has started to form a successful strike partnership with Manchester City loan marksman Devante Cole, has no doubts the Reds can cause the Blades plenty of problems in their own backyard.
“Me and Devante are linking up really well,” said Winnall.
“Hopefully we can cause United lots of problems.”
