Barnsley are expected to unveil George Moncur and Elliott Lee as new signings this week.

The duo have both agreed terms with the Reds, but have yet to be officially unveiled at Oakwell.

Midfielder Moncur and striker Lee are currently the only two players the Reds have recruited over the summer, although winger Adam Hammill and defender Aidy Whith both signed new deals to stay.

But the Reds are continuing to look at Manchester United striker Ashley Fletcher and Walsall hitman Tom Bradshaw.

Charlton Athletic winger Callum Harriet is also wanted, as is Plymouth Argyle centre back Curtis Nelson.

And as the Reds squad prepare to return for the first day of fitness testing today at the club, following a welcome holiday, Moncur and Lee are soon expected to join the group.

The club’s official pre-season start is this Friday, 1 July, with boss Paul Heckingbottom set to unveil his plan for what promises to be an exciting season back in the Championship.

“We’ve got a good group of players in place, but we do want a few more,” Heckingbottom told The Star.

“We’re in a good position recruitment-wise. It was great to keep Adam and Aidy, but we want to add some more quality.”

And Heckingbottom, who has agreed a one-year rolling contract to be the club’s permanent boss, has also stressed the importance of keeping hold of influential players like striker Sam Winnall and midfielder and skipper Conor Hourihane.

Winnall and Hourihane played massive roles in the club winning promotion back to the English second tier and in winning the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Wembley.

“Conor and Sam are massive for us, just for their goals and assists alone,” insisted Heckingbottom. “But also they’re leaders and two great team players. They’ve been great for us.

“It would have to take a huge bid from someone to take them away for us, but we’re in a fortunate position because the owner [Patrick Cryne] doesn’t need the money and we want them to stay.”

Meanwhile, the Reds have arranged nine pre-season fixtures, with tough clashes with Everton and then Hull City the pick of their warm-ups before the new Championship season starts on Saturday 6 July.
