DEFENDER Stephen Foster is confident Barnsley can make a real impression in the Championship this season, especially with the arrival of five summer signings.
Egyptian striker Mido, goalie Ben Alnwick and midfielders Jacob Mellis, Kelvin Etuhu and Tony Silva have all joined.
They have impressed in pre-season and will look to shine tomorrow when the Reds hosts West Brom at Oakwell.
“It’s exciting to see new faces. We’ve worked with Jacob Mellis before and we know what a talent he is” Foster said. “He’s exceptional on the ball; we’ve already seen his passing ability. We’ve got a lot of other talented players, so it’s exciting working with them. There’s always a lot of new faces for the new season, it’s always exciting. We’ve got to be confident going forward. We’ve had changes in the summer and we should take confidence into every single game.
“It’s going to be a really tight league. Hopefully we can start strongly and get the start we’re looking for.”
And Foster, having recently returned from the club’s training camp in Marbella, added: “As a squad this is probably the fittest squad I’ve been involved with.”
This season Reds boss Keith Hill is ready to blood more youngsters into his side. And Foster says: “The opportunity is there for the young lads. If they work hard and really push themselves then they could find themselves in the team.
