BARNSLEY striker Chris O’Grady is enjoying his first pre-season with Barnsley, at their Spanish training base.

The former Sheffield Wednesday marksman has penned a two-year deal with the Reds. Speaking from La Cala, where the club are based, O’Grady is working overtime to make sure he’s in top condition for the new campaign. “Training is intense - exactly what we all need,” said O’Grady. “In this temperature the average person would just stop, but we carry on. Temperatures are definitely a lot warmer than in Barnsley!

“It’s about training hard, eating and sleeping” said O’Grady. “There’s no point not getting your rest, because if you do that you’ll struggle for the next session. I didn’t have a pre-season with Barnsley last season, but I soon settled in. I struggled at first when I came in on loan last season, it took me a while to get going. But I’m glad I’m getting this pre-season under my belt. I’m looking forward to the season and showing how fit we are.”

O’Grady added: “I’m just focused on the first game of the season and doing everything I can to help the team win that. I set short-term goals. I want to reach longer term goals as well, but I just want to start well and build from there.”
