Barnsley have released winger Dale Jennings a year early from his three-year contract.
The former Bayern Munich and Tranmere Rovers midfielder has struggled for fitness ever since he joined the Reds in June 2013.
And although boss Lee Johnson was appreciative of Jennings’ talents, he was happy to let the player leave by mutual consent today.
Jennings, aged 22, signed for the Reds for £250,000 after a two-year stint with Bayern, but has failed to live up to expectation in South Yorkshire.
Constant issues with his weight and fitness are understood to be some of the reasons why Jennings left the club.
In a statement Barnsley FC said: “We would like to wish Dale the best of luck with his future endeavours.”
