Barnsley hope three of their out-of-contract players will make decisions on their futures this week.

Defenders Martin Cranie and Bobby Hassell and winger Tomasz Cywka have yet to pen new deals with the Championship club.

But Reds director Don Rowing has revealed: “Hopefully something will happen this week. The players have had their contract offers for about three weeks now and have got until the end of this month to let us know what they’re going to do.”

Striker Jason Scotland and defenders Jimmy McNulty and Tom Kennedy have all signed new deals ahead of the club’s eighth successive season in the second tier of English football.

Midfielder Kelvin Etuhu is understood to have agreed to sign a new two-year deal, although the player has yet to put pen to paper.

Meanwhile, Barnsley, who have been linked with former Bayern Munich forward Dale Jennings, have been drawn at home to Scunthorpe United, relegated to League Two last season, in the first round of the Capital One Cup.

The Reds lost at eventual winners Swansea in the second round of last year’s competition after winning a seven-goal thriller at Rochdale in round one which saw goalkeeper Ben Alnwick sent off for a headbutt.
