Barnsley boss Lee Johnson has called for his team to relieve their frustration with a win against Crewe tomorrow.
The Reds host the Railwaymen looking to bounce back from last Saturday’s disappointing 2-1 Yorkshire derby defeat away to Doncaster Rovers.
And Johnson knows a victory would get his side back on track for challenging for a top-six place this season.
“It’s a tough game even though they are bottom of the league,” said Johnson.
“But we haven’t faired well against teams down there. We’ve done better against the teams up there.
“We have to go into the game nice and positive. The players are disappointed about the result last week, but they’ve picked me up this week with their enthusiasm.
“I’m sure they’ll release their energy and frustration in this game, but we’ve just got to make sure we channel it in the right way.”
Ryan Williams is missing and still not expected to return to training for as long as ten days as he continues to recover from a groin tear.
And Manchester United loan midfielder Joe Rothwell is also absent as he requires an operation to have his tonsils removed.
“Joe’s going to be out for a month, so that’s an unfortunate loss for us,” revealed Johnson. “But Manchester United and ourselves think it’s the best thing for his career to get it done.”
Arsenal youngster Dan Crowley, Simeon Jackson and Conor Wilkinson are also unavailable this weekend, with the trio away on international duty.
“We’re depleted a little bit, but I still believe we go into the game with a strong 11, ”Johnson said.
The Reds’ postponed Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash with Bradford City has been re-scheduled for next Tuesday, October 13.
