BARNSLEY will kick off their new Championship season at home to Middlesbrough.

And that fixture could see the Reds line up with Egyptian international striker Mido against his old club.

Former Tottentham, Ajax and Boro hitman Mido, aged 29, is now expected to have his medical with the club later this week with a permanent one-year deal believed to have already agreed with the player and his agent.

“I can’t wait for the season to start now. The players have seen the fixtures and they’re buzzing as well,” Hill told The Star.

Amazingly Barnsley have not started the season with a home game since August 2007 when they lost 4-1 to Coventry. The last home win on the opening day of the season was a 2-0 victory over Swindon in 2005.

The last four seasons have seen the Reds start the league away.

“We need to hit the ground running,” added Hill. “It’s great for the players and the fans we’ve got a home game; it’s a good opportunity for us.”
