Reds boss David Flitcroft hopes a “culture swing” at the Championship club will help yield rich rewards.
The Reds have a new chairman in Maurice Watkins, a new chief executive in Ben Mansford and have also swooped to sign ex-Sheffield Wednesday striker Chris O’Grady and former Bayern Munich winger Dale Jennings to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
And there could be some more new signings through the Oakwell door before they kick off their league campaign at home to Wigan Athletic on August 3.
Flitcroft told The Star: “I genuinely believe the players see a different direction for the football club.
“It used be promise, after promise, after promise, but nothing would happen.
“This group of players want to spend time together and they want to work. There’s a real energy and excitement to getting fit. We’re progressing as a club, as a unit and as a management team.”
The Reds, who will entertain Belgium side Club Brugge on Friday July 12, kick-off 7pm and then French outfit Girondins de Bordeaux on Thursday July 25, kick-off 7.30pm, have signed midfielder Wade Joyce on a six-month deal from Sunderland.
“I’m buzzing to be here,” said 18-year-old Joyce. “I want to impress.”
