BARNSLEY midfielder Jacob Mellis says new boss David Flitcroft has united the club.

Former Chelsea playmaker Mellis bagged the winner on Tuesday as the Reds beat fellow strugglers Wolves.

“The gaffer has brought the whole club together to be honest,” revealed Mellis.

“Everyone’s fighting in the right direction, whether you’re playing or on the bench. As a group we’re all together and picking up points, which is good. If you’re not even in the squad everyone wants the same thing.

“The manager is utilizing the squad and that’s working well.”

Few could argue it’s been a remarkable revival in fortunes under Flitcroft’s brief stewardship as first team boss.

And thes win over Wolves now sees the Reds two points above the drop zone and with a game in hand.

“It was a big three points beating Wolves, especially given how close to us they are in the table,” added Mellis.

“But we’re just taking each half of football as it comes.

“As long as we keep the run going then we have got no problems.

“Confidence is high, so even when we go behind like we did against Wolves we always feel like we can come back.

“The lads really care about each and want to do well for each other.

“No one wants to let anyone down, so we’re all pulling in the same direction. It’s good to be a part of. We’ve just got keep going and going, so who knows what can happen?”
