Barnsley have today signed former Manchester United striker John Cofie, writes Tom Bestwick.
The 20-year-old striker, who had a loan spell with Sheffield United last season, has signed a one-year deal at Oakwell with the option of a second year. He becomes Barnsley’s fourth summer signing.
Born in Ghana, Cofie started his career with Burnley and his potential earned him a move to Manchester United. He also regularly featured for the England Under 17’s side.
Cofie had two loan spells last season – one at Sheffield United where he scored two goals in 16 appearances before playing seven games for Notts County towards the end of the term before being released by the Premier League champions this summer.
