Reds boss Lee Johnson has revealed his ambitious young side will be targeting promotion this season.
New signing Daniel Crowley shares that view and revealed as much having joined on a six-month loan from Arsenal earlier this week.
And with exciting talents like Manchester United duo Ben Pearson and Joe Rothwell amongst their ranks, why not aspire to challenge for a rise to the Championship?
“We’ve got a great structure in place [at the club],” said Johhson.
“I don’t know how long it will take, but we’re certainly going into this season competing for promotion this season.
“For me we’re a big club in this division. I came here for success, that’s why I joined the club. I’m young and hungry myself. The next stage for me is to get a promotion with somebody. You have to be very brave. We’ve recruited some very young talented players.
“I’ve tried to sign players in my image, so we’ve got young, hungry and mobile footballers. The question for is ‘can the young lads handle it [the pressure]?’ and ‘can they go tough places like Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night and deal with the aerial threat of their two strikers?’
“If they can we’ll be fine, but we’ll certainly play good football because we can’t play anything else.
“You want to tick all the boxes for the division. I think we’ve done that, but we are very young.
“It’s all very positive and, to be totally honest, this is the most excited I’ve been going into a season because I know the brand of football we’ll play will be very, very good.”
Johnson remains on the hunt for at least one new striker ahead of Saturday’s opening League One clash with Yorkshire derby rivals Chesterfield.
And the manager is sticking strictly to his blueprint of developing bright young talent to try and win back their Championship status.
“There will be games where it doesn’t go for us, but I genuinely think we’ll take the ball in most games we play and dominate the ball,” stressed Johnson.
