The Reds are planning for life in the Championship after their automatic promotion from League One this season, but have yet to announce their retained list.

Adam Davies, Adam Jackson and Ryan Hedges are all out of contract, while the club have an option to extend Dimitri Cavare's deal by a further year.

The players have all been celebrating their promotion in Las Vegas, which has delayed talks with players.

Jackson and Hedges are expected to leave Oakwell this summer, but Stendel is desperate to keep captain Davies.

The goalkeeper kept the most clean sheets in League One last season and is reported to be attracting interest from Stoke as the Reds fear they could lose their key man.

Stendel is still waiting for talks to begin and wants to get cracking so he can nail down plans for life in the Championship.

“We have been working in the last days for the next season,” he said to the Star.

“It started immediately after we got promoted, we have no time to wait.

“We have some players that we want to keep in the club and we need to talk to the players and agents and keep most of them from this season.

“They played very well and I hope they want to play with us in the Championship.

“Some players we have options, other times the players can decide. I hope it is as fast as possible, but it is not really my decision.

“I hope we can convince all the players that we want to stay here and go on our way.”

Stendel was last with his group last week when the club held a parade in the town centre to celebrate their promotion.

Thousands of fans lined the streets to welcome their heroes and Stendel thought it was a heart-warming experience.

He added: “It was a great moment for us, it is a sign of the of big relationship between the club and the town and the people in the town.

“We deserved to celebrate this moment together.”
