Banks was plucked from non-League FC United of Manchester in September 2013 by then boss Paul Cook and made an immediate impact.

A return of four goals in six matches saw him named the Football League’s Young Player of the Month for November.

Two of those goals came against Rochdale in the JP Trophy in the season that saw Cook’s side reach the final at Wembley.

A total of 33 appearances, including nine goals, helped the Spireites to promotion from League Two in a memorable first season.

The former Rotherham United youngster has gone on to feature for the club in League One, playing more than 30 games in each of the last two campaigns.

Banks signed a 12-month extension to his deal last August while Dean Saunders was in charge at the Proact Stadium, taking him to the summer of 2017.

A statement on Chesterfield’s official website confirmed the player had been released from his contract.

It added: “The club thank Ollie for all his efforts with the Spireites and wish him all the best with the rest of his career.”

Banks has signed a two-year deal at Boundary Park.
