THE two remaining South Yorkshire sides left in the FA Vase, Parkgate and AFC Emley, were both out of luck when they were handed away ties in the third round draw - the last 64 - made yesterday at Wembley.

Parkgate travel to the North East to meet Shildon from the Northern League, the competition which provided last season’s winners Dunston.

Meanwhile, AFC Emley go to Lancashire club Barnoldswick Town who play in the Premier Division of the North West Counties League, in effect a division higher than Emley who are in Division One of the equivalent league on this side of the Pennines, the Northern Counties East League.

Parkgate’s opponents Shildon play in Division One, the top one, of the Northern League. Last Saturday, Parkgate had a 4-2 home win over Esh Winning who are from the level below Shildon, Division Two.

Emley may wish to put in a call to fellow NCEL club Armthorpe Welfare who were beaten 5-2 at Barnoldswick in last weekend’s second round.

The third round ties are on Saturday, December 8 and the individual prize money for getting through the round is £1,500. Last season, NCEL side Staveley MW got through to the semi-finals.

For Parkgate it’s back to NCEL Premier Division action tonight when entertaining Nostell MW at Green Lane.

Armthorpe Welfare, fifth bottom, have a stiff task away to leaders Bridlington Town who are six points clear and who had won 12 on the trot before drawing 1-1 at Maltby on Saturday.

Elsewhere there is League Cup action with Athersley Rec, enjoying such a good first season in the league and top of Division One, at home to Pontefract Collieries.
