Away teams make their mark in cup

ONLY three of the scheduled third round matches in the County Senior League Cup were able to take place on Saturday with the wind and rain meaning waterlogged grounds made the rest of the pitches unplayable.

Those that went ahead all resulted in away victories.

High Green Villa came from behind to beat hosts Swallownest MW 3-2 with strikes from Luke Parkinson, Danny Reet and Lewis Pearce. This was after Swallownest had taken the lead with a blistering 25 yarder from winger Mike Briggs.

Second-Division De La Salle were 3-1 winners against Division One side Wickersley with their marksmen being Harry Chamberlain and Sean White with an own goal making up their trio, Ryan Watson was the Wickersley scorer.

Dinnington Town won by odd goal in three at Frickley Colliery.

Only one game was played in the Premier Division and this saw Millmoor Juniors 4-2 winners over Wombwell Main, Josh Nodder scoring a double on his debut for the Rotherham side.

Sheffield City Frecheville thumped Thorncliffe 5-0 in Division Two, Lee Campbell hitting a brace, and Swinton Station walloped Sheffield Parramore 7-1 with doubles from Mark Clair and Ryan Oakley.

All other games were off.
