Athletics club's hat trick of success at presentation evening

DONCASTER Athletic Club collected three of the 17 awards up for grabs at the England Athletics Yorkshire and Humberside presentation evening in Leeds.

Doncaster secretary Barry Barnes, who also took over as membership secretary during the season in addition to being a member of the coaching team, was presented with the Volunteer of the Year award.

The club, who saw membership almost double following their move to the new athletics stadium at the Lakeside Sports Complex in January, won the club of the year award.

Four members represented the club at the English Schools’ Track and Field Championships, and the club ran away with the South Yorkshire Track and Field title and won promotion in the Young Athletes League.

The club and Doncaster Council won the Club/Partnership award as a result of their combined efforts to promote the sport.
