Last night the Spaniard tweeted of his hopes of playing some minutes against Aston United in the Derbyshire Senior Cup at the Proact.

Martinez, who has only played three times for Town due to a 2015 knee injury, said: “It’s been a long trip, 15 long months, and I’m so excited about to play some minutes again tomorrow, I’m not sure if I will sleep tonight.”

The 30-year-old was signed by Dean Saunders in the summer of 2015, after being released by Millwall.

A freak injury in a training session left him needing surgery, but his comeback has been fraught with setbacks.

Town’s current boss Danny Wilson may see tonight’s game as the perfect chance to give some much needed game time to some of his other injury returnees.

The Van Yard (West) Stand will be open for the fixture, which kicks off at 7pm.

Admission is £5 for adults and £1 for concessions.

If the game is level after 90 minutes it will be decided by penalties.
