Allen wants one more striker for Spireites

Martin Allen would still like another striker to complete his Chesterfield squad.

Although the manager is pleased with the burgeoning partnership between Gozie Ugwu and Zavon Hines, the early promise shown by Lee Shaw and the emergence of teenager Luke Rawson, he’s still after one more.

“Each person who came to the Proact for Tommy’s testimonial would have seen what an exciting pairing Gozie and Zavon were,” he said.

“But there are 46 games in this competition, plus cup games, it’s a tough, long 10 months.

“Lee will no doubt take a couple of months of full-time training to get up to the levels where he needs to be.

“He’s showing signs of being there or thereabouts already, so we’ve kind of got three forwards.

“We could probably do with one more, just to make that fourth that every manager wants.

“In an ideal world you would want two big ones and two smaller ones.”

Allen has been very impressed with what he’s seen from academy prospect Rawson, who got a first team debut last season against the new Town boss and his former club Barnet.

“If we don’t get one we’ve got another young one, who is very, very good, pushing his way forward very, very quickly, in Luke Rawson,” said Allen.
