MP for Chesterfield Toby Perkins has called on the town to ‘roar the Spireites to victory’ on Saturday when they host Bury, when three points would secure the club’s League One status.

And in an attempt to pack the Proact on ‘True Blue Day’, the club have made admission just £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, while there will be a sale in the club superstore.

Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner said the price reductions were an expression of the club’s gratitude to their fanbase: “We wanted to thank the fans for their tremendous support and we hope they will appreciate the offers

“It is a very important match on Saturday and we need as many people as possible to turn up and support the team. We are encouraging fans to wear their blue replica shirts, which can also be worn in the hospitality areas.”

Ahead of what he described as ‘arguably the most important match since the FA Cup semi final’ Mr Perkins revealed that he and the club would be paying for 10 local school children and their parents to attend the crucial clash with Bury.

He said: “Loyal Spireites fans have given great backing through what has been a tough season, but I hope that more of the ‘occasional’ fans will come out in force for this crucial match.

“We all know it’s been a tough campaign. In Danny Wilson, the club have a manager with the experience to build an entertaining side next year, but retaining their League One status this year is absolutely crucial.

“If we could fill the ground for this crucial game it could give the players the boost they need to gain the win that would secure League One football for next year.”

The town’s MP will miss the game to attend a friend’s wedding, but wanted to do his bit to encourage as many people as possible to back the Spireites.

“I appreciate that there is an irony in asking others to attend when I won’t actually be there myself, but I am buying tickets for five Chesterfield school children and their parents to get in and back the team to victory for me,” he said.

“I am delighted that the club are matching this and my office will be speaking to the headteachers of 10 local schools to ask them to invite one special student who has worked hard this year, and their parent, as my small contribution to packing the ground out this week.”

And he welcomes the club’s move to reduce ticket prices.

“I am delighted that the club have announced that they are putting a special cutprice offer on in an effort to encourage as many fans as possible in to the ground.

“You cannot underestimate how important staying up is to the club and the town, and with the injuries and suspension hitting the club, they need all the support they can get on Saturday.”

The reduced price tickets are now on sale at the ticket office at the Proact.

Anyone who has already paid full price for a match ticket is asked to return the ticket to the ticket office for a full refund up until 5pm on Thursday. After that, those who have paid full price for a ticket will be eligible for a ticket voucher for next season, which will be available from 9am on Tuesday.

There are also plans to put on several ticket offers for season ticket holders next season.

The sale in the club superstore will feature a 50 per cent discount off items’ original price, and will run on Friday and Saturday up until kick-off.
